A Global Environment
Most people are now affected, in some way, by our increasingly global environment. Individuals will need to have knowledge of how international issues affect the economy, purchasing decisions, and ultimately, our overall lifestyle. Successful businesses will need to have international competence – a good understanding of how businesses are affected by the complexity of diverse cultures, laws, languages and political structures of countries outside of the United States. The Academy of International Business & Finance is designed for students who seek to broaden their knowledge in this growing and vital area. Students who are members of this unique educational program will be immersed in global issues in a multi-disciplinary setting. In addition to the core high-school academic requirements, Academy members will also take specially designed courses in Business, Social Studies, and Foreign Language, and participate in global-focused programs and research.
Academy Participation
The purpose of the Academy is to provide students with the knowledge and skills that will give them an advantage in their future academic and professional careers. Therefore, the program is designed to be rigorous and challenging. Students will participate in: · Instruction in new courses including International Business, Culture Studies, and Geography & Trade
· International travel to China, Belgium, Spain, Germany, and/or involvement with foreign exchange students
· An internship in an international company or organization
· Advanced research instruction resulting in a capstone senior research project
