Many optical illusions use excessive amounts of repetitive images. Your brain gets overwhelmed by all of the extra information, so you tend to focus precisely only on the center of your vision. Your brain tries to "guess" at everything surrounding the center of view, and it often "creates" flickers of color or motion that are not really there. These are often called "shimmers."
For each image, let your eyes wander around the image and look for unusual shimmering. If that doesn't work, try holding your eyes still and moving your head back and forth slightly. Remember, not all illusions work for all people, and take a break if your eyes start to hurt!
