In computer class we are exploring all the advantages of technology in a responsible way. Turning on and shutting down computers is just the tip of the iceberg. Students are learning the importance of the privacy of individual passwords and the ownership of files. Also, they are learning copyright laws, the proper use and care of equipment, and utilizing the internet safely. We are researching information using the internet, and then creating graphic organizers using Kidspiration. Most of the projects are geared around the K-3 Scott Foresman reading series, which helps reinforce what the students are learning in their classrooms. Each time the students visit the computer class, they are learning to master keyboarding and mouse skills. Students will explore and learn how to use Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, Kid Pix, Podcasting, Movie Maker, MP3 players, digital still and video cameras, and a Smart Board to create numerous educational projects. Lewiston Porter has done a great job in supplying the students and myself with new state of the art equipment to help prepare them for the 21st century.
