The 2011-12 school year begins my eighth year of teaching. This is my fifth year at Lewiston-Porter as a First Grade specialist. I have prior experience as an elementary educator in Kindergarten, as well as Grades 3-6. I am proud to be part of the team working at Lewiston-Porter Primary Education Center. It is a wonderful school with a positive environment.
I consider First Grade to be a milestone year and am thrilled to be teaching your child. There is no other year in your child's education like First Grade, and let me tell you why...
reading... reading... reading.
making friends... sharing many things for the first time... and reading...
I understand education from both sides of the glass: I have experience as a teacher, and as a parent. I understand the developmental levels of first grade children, and I firmly believe in the importance of recognizing and reinforcing each child’s talents. I enjoy connecting with the children, but also recognize the importance of connecting with the grown-ups at home. You are the ones who continue the learning process outside of school.I have made travel an important part of my life: India, China, Egypt, Israel, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, Peru, Columbia, Brazil, Canada, a few island beaches, and of course our beautiful United States. I love to go to new places. I love to get out of my comfort zone where I remember how difficult, yet rewarding, trying something new can be. I have climbed Mt. Fuji and the Great Wall of China. I have walked through the foothill villages of the Himalaya Mountains, and experienced monsoon rains, firsthand. I have hiked in 107 degree weather in the beautiful parks of Utah. Each experience has enriched my life and improved my teaching. I'm definitely a "big picture" kind of person. Our brains continue to expand with each new experience.
There is always more: always more to learn, always more to see, always more to understand, and always more to the great potential of our minds... adults and children alike! I welcome the journey of the 2011 -12 school year!
This year is about the pleasures of reading, the lessons of patience, and the rewards of perseverance.
EVERY CHILD IS UNIQUE!
EVERY CHILD IS A READER!
EVERY CHILD IS A SUCCESS!
Welcome to the adventures of First Grade! I look forward to sharing this year with you and your child.
