 SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO LEW-PORT CLASS OF 2011

 

LPAA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

At the Senior Recognition Night June 2, 2011 Michael Cuddahee and Hannah Matthews were presented $1,000 scholarships awarded by Lewiston-Porter Alumni Association. Purposes of the scholarships are to honor deserving Lew-Port Class of 2011 graduates and help defray their continuing education expenses. Additionally, Mackenzie Adamson was presented a $500 scholarship honoring deceased alumnus Jason Raby. LPAA Vice President Douglas Diez and Board Member Gary J. Raby Sr. presented the scholarship awards recognizing each winner’s outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and community service.  Twenty-five students applied making selection very challenging, given the noteworthy accomplishments documented in applicants’ transcripts and letters of recommendation from both faculty and community leaders. This is the fourth year Lew-Port Alumni Association has made unrestricted LPAA scholarship awards and the first year for the Jason Raby Memorial Scholarship. LPAA plans to continue offering all three scholarships to Lew-Port Class of 2012.

CLASS OF 1958 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Courtney Corbetta, Derek Tucker, Shannon Jeffs and Tegan Foley were recipients of the Class of 1958 Memorial Scholarship Awards. The winners were selected from among 22 highly qualified applicants from Lew-Port. Representing the Class of 1958, Edward W. Engel presented each winner with a $1,000 scholarship, Letter of Commendation, and framed Certificate of Award. Class of 1958 has awarded 35 scholarships to Lew-Port graduates beginning in 1994 and plans to continue the tradition in 2012.

MARGARET TOWER JAMES FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Devin Stabley-Conde received the Margaret Tower James Family Scholarship at Senior Recognition Night June 2, 2011. Ann Tower Johnston and Janet James Hallahan made the presentation of a $1,000 scholarship recognizing Ms. Stabley-Conde’s community service, academic achievement, and extra-curricular activities at Lew-Port. Devin plans to major in Education at SUNY Geneseo. This is the third year that the Tower and James families have recognized a Lew-Port gradate planning to pursue a degree in education. The family looks forward to continuing the scholarship in 2012.

WASTE MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Brandon Davis received the $1,000 Waste Management Scholarship at Senior Recognition Night June 2, 2011. Representing Waste Management Ms. Lori Casa presented the award to Brandon who plans to major in Environmental Management. Significantly, Waste Management has endowed this scholarship at Lewiston-Porter for presentation annually in perpetuity. 

 

 

PARTNERS in EDUCATION

Kim Kirsch and Anne LeGasse presented the inaugural PIE scholarship awards to Janelle Jakobi and Marc Morreale. Each award is for $250 and is designated for students enrolling in a two year community college, vocational or trade school. Both recipients were recognized for their excellent academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and community service spanning several years. PIE plans to continue offering the scholarship in future years.

 

CHRISTOPHER D’ANGELIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Brandon Davis was awarded this inaugural $500 scholarship in memory of deceased alumnus Christopher D’Angelis. Brandon’s selection was based upon his planned college major in technology, related high school academic achievements, and overall accomplishments at Lew-Port and in the local community. High School Principal Mr. Paul Casseri presented the scholarship which is planned to be continued in 2012.

At the Senior Recognition Night June 2, 2010 Emma Besaw and Gurpratap Singh were
presented scholarships awarded by Lewiston-Porter Alumni Association. Purposes of the
scholarships are to honor deserving Lew-Port Class of2010 graduates and help defray
their continuing education expenses. LP AA Board Member Douglas Diez presented the
$1,000 scholarship awards recognizing each wiuner's outstanding academic
achievements, extracurricular activities, and community service. Twenty-one students
applied making selection very challenging, given the noteworthy accomplishments
documented in applicants' transcripts and letters of recommendation from both faculty
and community leaders. This is the third year our Lew-Port Alumni Association has made
scholarship awards at the High School. LP AA plans to continue offering scholarships to
Lew-Port Class of 2011.


CLASS OF 1958 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

James Oddy, Kelsey Sargent and Janelle Johnson were recipients of the Class of 1958
Memorial Scholarship Awards. The winners were selected from among 18 highly
qualified applicants from Lew-Port. Representing the Class of 1958, Jack James
presented each winner with a $1,000 scholarship, Letter of Commendation, and framed
Certificate of Award. Class of 1958 has awarded 31 scholarships to Lew-Port graduates
beginning in 1994 and plans to continue the tradition in 2011.

Lauren Conti received the Margaret Tower James Family Scholarship at Senior
Recognition Night June 2, 2010. Peggy Tower Shear and Janet James Hallahan made the presentation of a $1,000 scholarship recognizing Ms. Conti's community service,
academic achievement, and extra-curricular activities at Lew-Port. This is the second
year that the Tower and James families have recognized a Lew-Port gradate planning to
pursue a degree in education. The family looks forward to continuing the scholarship in
2011.


2009 Alumni Scholarship Winners

presented scholarships awarded by Lewiston-Porter Alumni Association. Purposes of the
scholarships are to honor deserving Lew-Port Class of 2009 graduates and help defray
their continuing education expenses. LP AA Board Member Douglas Diez presented the
$750 scholarship awards recognizing each winner's outstanding academic achievements,
extracurricular activities, and community service. Twenty-one students applied making
selection very challenging, given the noteworthy accomplishments documented in
applicants' transcripts and letters of recommendation from both faculty and community
leaders. This is the second year our Lew-Port Alumni Association has made scholarship
awards at the High School. The Alumni Association will continue offering scholarships
to Lewiston-Porter High School Class of 2010.

2009 Scholarship Winner Profiles

Shannon Girasole is a 2009 graduate of Lewiston-Porter. She excelled in school
activities, academics and community service. A sampling of her achievements include
Founder and President of the Lew-Port School Historical Society; tutor to an eighth grade
student; coach in the Niagara Pioneer Soccer League; Senior Editor of Freelancer; and
Treasurer of the International Studies Club. Shannon sustained excellent academic
achievement over four years at Lewiston-Porter High School. She is now enrolled at
Niagara University pursing a degree to teach grade 5-12 Social Studies. Ms. Girasole's
scholarship was presented in honor of former Class of 1958 teacher Ms. Jeanne Clark
made possible by a contribution from the Mrs. Judith Abbott Jarvis family.


Samantha Wilber is also a 2009 graduate of Lewiston-Porter. She had notable
achievements in community service, academics, and scholarship. These included
commendable academic grades throughout high school; three Advance Placement
completions; superior athletic accomplishments in track and soccer; numerous successes
in photography; annual participation in a Zoo Careers camp; and volunteering at SPCA
and Lewiston Animal Hospital. Ms. Wilber is attending the University of Florida pursing
a degree in Wildlife Ecology and career in environmental research.


Zachary A. Joseph, a 2009 Lew-Port graduate distinguished himself in a variety
of scholastic, community service, and school activities. These included many musical
awards and performances at Lewiston-Porter Central School and throughout the Niagara
Region; his musical performances a many local nursing homes and charity events; high
Honor Roll for three years; Presidency of Christians in Action and Spanish Clubs;
organizing the Christmas Drive for Children; volunteering at Saint Francis Learning
Center; and local employment. Zachary is now at SUNY Fredonia majoring in Music
Education, Cello Performance. His scholarship was made possible through the generosity
of the Mrs. Judith Abbott Jarvis Family in memory of alumnus Dr. Michael A. Abbott.


Matthew Grainge was also a member of the Lewiston-Porter Class of 2009. He
had a commendable balance of community service, academics, and school activities.
Examples include Chapter Presidency of the Distributive Educational Club of America;
participation in the LeadAmerica Conference; and coach in the Niagara Pioneer Soccer
League. His was successfully employed at two jobs while in high school plus did
volunteer work at the Lewiston Police Department and Niagara County Sheriffs
Department. Matthew is attending Niagara University studying criminal justice and
sociology.


Erin L. Keegan was a member of the Lewiston-Porter Class of 2009. She had a
commendable balance of community service, academics, and school activities. Examples
include three Advance Placement achievements; high academic performance. for four
years; accomplishments with the Greater Niagara Ballet Company and the Cechetti
professional ballet exam; Lewiston-Porter tennis team leadership and volunteer work at
Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Erin is attending University of Rochester as a Pre-med major
in Bio-medical Engineering.


2008 Alumni Scholarship Winners

This year's Alumni Association Scholarship winners are Steven Cevaer and Lisa Fleck.  Bob Pelletier thanked Paul Casseri, Cindy Bullis, and Guidance Office Counselors that helped in the selection of our two 2008 LPAA scholarship winners. 22 excellent applications made final selection difficult. Bob praised the quality of students at Lew-Port.  Doug Diez presented our scholarship winners with plaques, letters, and $750 award at the Senior Awards Night May 29.
